PATHER PANCHALI (SONG OF THE LITTLE ROAD)
Since having recently gotten the pleasure to appreciate Satyajit Ray's wonderful movies a few months ago, I've often been wanting more.
Pather Panchali is the first installment of the Apu Trilogy. A set of films directed by Ray between 1955 and 1959 and based on the novels of Bengali writer, Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay.
The films that form the trilogy are as follows:
Pather Panchali
Aparajito
Apu Ansar
I had already picked up Apu Ansar a couple months ago and enjoyed it very much. Ray's movies are slow, but beautiful and I always end up falling in love with the characters.
Pather Panchali tells the story of Apu as a young boy living in a small village in rural Bengal during the 1920's. Also in the movie are his family and the other villagers. I don't want to say too much about the movie as Ray's style focuses more on the character's lives but I do wholeheartedly recommend it.
If your interested, and you do watch it, let me know what you think.
